Virgin holidays internal flight baggage fee - not the info were told when booking

Me and my partner are going on holiday to the States which invovles an internal flight from Las Vegas to LA. When I booked the holiday I asked whether baggage was included on ALL flights and was told it was. Now, Virgin are saying that baggage has not been booked on the internal flight and we will have to pay for it.

Does anyone have any advice about how I should proceed? Before I phoned Virgin to confirm the booking I made a list of things I wanted to ask and I ticked them off/made notes as I went through, so I know I specifically asked them about the internal flight baggage allowance.

I feel like more and more has been added to the original price I was given but I guess thats not surprising, even if disappointing!

Yes Virgin have form for this sort of thing. We flew to Cuba a few years ago on Premium Economy and had internal flights from Havana to Holguin. It was only when we got the first internal flight we found out the luggage allowance on the internal flight was 10kg less than premium economy.

I'm sure it will be hidden in your flight details somewhere but they don't make it obvious.

Might have been mixed communications.

It would be included on internal flights if you connect the same day on the same ticket - e.g. Virgin Atlantic LHR JFK, Delta Airlines JFK LAS - but not if you stop a few days (say in JFK on above routing) and then fly on to LAS a few days later. That is then a separate internal/domestic flight and Delta’s baggage fees would likely apply. Your holiday confirmation should however confirm all the baggage allowances and charges applicable.

Separate internal flights in the USA never have baggage included (except for some airlines like Southwest). It's $25 for the first bag, $35 for the next, so not too bad.

If it was a connecting flight and your luggage was checked in all the way through to your final destination (ie you didn't stop for 1 day or more) then you wouldn't pay any extra.

Just a cost you'll have to pay I'm afraid! Whenever a bag leaves airside you need to re-check it in and pay any baggage fees. It's most likely Delta you'll be flying with as they partner with Virgin (Virgin don't do internal USA flights).
