Self employment insurance question

Hi all,
Just a quick one...
So I’m self employed, I have been for 5 years and it’s only just dawned on me to take out insurance for obvious reasosn that havent always been so obvious 😅

I’ve looked into the online quotes and every time I answer yes to having a criminal record my quote comes back with no insurance policies what so ever.
This is usually the case when I look at multi quote with public liability insurance.

Since I am self employed as a sole trader, I am responsible for the accounts and finances so I’m presuming that’s why it won’t insure me.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Can I get insurance for self employment with a criminal record?

Many thanks I’ll check back tomorrow

If the conviction is unspent, you will struggle through online quotation systems. Speak to a proper insurance broker.

Depending on what it was, and when, you should be able to get cover.

If the conviction is spent, then you don't need to declare it at all.

Thank you, what would mean my conviction is spent? I’ve been told some convictions are never spent

    see https://www.askthe.police.uk/Content/Q89.htm

A spent conviction is a conviction which, under the terms of Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, can be effectively ignored after a specified amount of time. The amount of time for rehabilitation depends on the sentence imposed, not on the offence.

Google it. Some offences are never spent, and if you'd did more than a handful of years in jail then it is unlikely to ever be spent, but most things are spent after a few years.

    Unlocked is a useful website.

Comparison sites focus on easy business. Not the more complicated cases. For those, you need to fall back to using an insurance broker (not Swinton).
