HSBC welcome email

I used the £175 switch offer to move get rid of my RBS account. I did it online, put in all my details, and I reached a page saying "all done, you'll receive a welcome pack by email, and your card and PIN will follow by post".

this was yesterday, and I still don't have any email from them. can something still go wrong, or do I have the account for sure now?

stupid question, but one never knows!

    HSBC are notorious for being slow and using snail mail for correspondence. They also don't follow up with account opening confirmation by email. If you still haven't received anything by post after 2 weeks or so then I'd be hassling them. Alternatively, you could give them a ring and ask them to confirm the status of your application.

    I was turned down for their Advance Bank Account last month because my salary is below £1750 a month. Even though I could fund it.

    Now I see the have relaunched it, but it contradicts itself as it says you have to pay in £1750 again to be eligible, but on the T&C's (and according to MSE) you don't need to pay £1750 in to get the £175. It's very confusing.

    I might try and apply for it again over the weekend. I've got nothing to lose (well, except another 30 mins of my life glued to the PC).

    I received my email 'Welcome Pack' pretty promptly. But my email software identified the welcome pack as a scam. So check your junk / spam folders in case the email went there instead. :)

    You need to pay in £1750 in order to maintain the “Advance” account product.
    Otherwise they will downgrade you to a standard bank account.

    nah, nothing in junk for now.

    but i guess all is fine, because I got an email saying "We've now sent your new HSBC Debit Card and it will arrive by post at your registered address within 3 working days." and then an hour later I got an SMS saying "Great news - your HSBC account is open. Please return the signature slip included in your welcome letter."

    Don't know what the signature slip is, but I'm guessing it's all fine though and they've accepted me for the switch :D
  • I was going to ask the same question. I opened the account last night, all apparently approved and fine. They offered up to a £3,000 overdraft and asked if I also wanted a credit card, also set a date for account switching. The website clearly said they would email my documents but I haven't received anything, even in my junk folder. I just called them to check and they said I should have had them already but that it's fine, I will get the documents in the post. Maybe it's a common thing due to the volumes they are getting at the moment? Or maybe gmail blocked it somehow?

    yeah, i went through exactly the same process. got my debit card today and activated it, so all seems fine.

    one thing which i didn't understand was why the earliest switching date i could select was 28th of august when they say the process takes only 7 days. i would actually prefer it earlier than that.

    It's seven working days from start to finish, and banks don't guarantee that it can be started immediately. In any case, it's prudent to ensure that your new account is fully up and running (card(s) arrived and tested, online access validated, inbound and outbound faster payments done, etc) before you're irreversibly committed, rather than potentially being caught without all desired banking facilities by rushing into it....

    ah, so that's how it goes. i didn't know that, i just thought it's seven days and boom, done :D

    does it ever happen they can do it earlier, or is the selected date, 28th in my case, really the earliest possibility?
