I am looking at PPI claims for a family member, and she has given me lots of information about past mortgage lenders, credit cards, loans etc, but mainly names of companies, rather than actual dates or account numbers.

I therefore need to look at contacting each of these institutions to determine whether the family member had PPI in the first place, as they have no documentation confirming either way.

My question is, if I contact the lenders now - I was only asked to look at this yesterday - without actually putting a claim in for PPI, because I have contacted them before the 29th deadline, if a response isn't received until after the 29th, will they still be eligible for PPI?

No one is "eligible for PPI". If you had the insurance, you have to show it was somehow mis-sold to you. Do this before, or on, August 29th and your complaint will be considered. Do it after that date and your complaint will be ignored.
