Dumb car insurance question

Got 2 cars, 1 that is the main family car, 1 old banger that my partner is learning to drive in. Me and her brother are both named drivers on her insurance.
Selling the main car at the weekend and just keeping the banger for us both to drive until partner has passed her test.
I'm having a dumb moment but what do I do insurance wise? Obviously got 2 policies at the moment, 1 mine for main car and 1 for partner in other car. Do we still need 2 seperate insurances for the 1 car? Do we combine it into 1 policy now? With my partner still being a learner and me named on her policy I'm not 100% sure how it works.

You will need to suspend/cancel the policy covering the car being sold
If you are intending getting a replacement soon then suspension is best option if your insurer allows that
Whatever you decide you must inform the insurer to stop cover as soon as the new owner takes over possession0 -
If you’ll now be the old banger’s main driver, you’ll need to let the insurers know.0

Not getting a replacement for a few months at least. I will be driving the other car instead (which partner will also be using to learn to drive in with me and her brother).
My confusion is more what to do after I've cancelled the policy for the old car. The Mrs is already insured for the other car and I'm named on her policy, so would that mean we are already both covered to drive it and I don't need to do anything?
I have 8 or 9 years no claims bonus on my current policy, what would happen to that when I cancel?0 -

I wouldn't say main driver. I cycle most places which is why I'm selling the main car in the first place. I'd only be driving the car on my own very occasionally. Would that be covered by me being a named driver on that policy already?
My partner is the registered owner of the banger if that makes any difference.0 -

I think that’ll be fine, since you’re already a named driver.
Your NCB will last up to 2yrs if you cancel your own policy, but it sounds like you’ll be buying another car long before that anyway.0 -

If you cancel the policy the NCD will be available for you to use on another car when you get it.
Insurers normally accept NCD up to 2 years old.
If you suspend the policy and it ends before you get a new car on cover, then your NCD will last 2 years from the end of the current policy0
