nPower Default
I am writing in regard to nPower default on my credit file.
I was in process of buying first mortgage and found about default when my application was declined. I always had credit file from Equifax which never showed any default on my file neither it shows now. The broker advised to look at creditexpert and experian as well as these are THREE main companies who keep record of all the data. I looked at both and found default from nPower on experian report on 17th March 2019 (not on creditexpert report) for £526 (gas account) default date: 24/08/2017. nPower was current supplier for both gas and electric at my current property.
I contaced nPower to question about it and they informed me it is balance from previous account at same property from 2012 added to my account as the name and date of birth is same as mine given to them by some house moving company which doesn't exist anymore. I did inform them that I was living at some other property in 2012 and advisor ask me to send proof for 2012, utility bill, tenancy agreement or council tax bill. I did inform them that these are not something which we keep for seven years. He advised if I can get letter from previous landlord confirming I was living at his property in 2012 they might consider looking into it.
I contacted landlord and he was kind enough to give me signed letter confirming how long I lived at his property (different address) but nPower refused to accept it by saying as there are no witness signatures on the letter they won't accept it. Advisor told me only thing they will consider is council tax bill before they help me with it. I contacted council if they can send me copy of council tax bill for 2012 but I got response from them they donot have record that old.
I forwarded the response from council to nPower seeking any help but nothing. In the mean time as nPower was my current supplier for both electrir and gas, I paid my bill and ask them to atleast change the status of default sum to settled or satisfied as I don't owe any money to them.
I was advised that it will be done in next 48 hours and when I checked my credit file again, the original default which was from August 2017 on gas account as removed but then they added default of £160 on my electric account dated 16/02/2019 showing satisfied status.
I called nPower again to question it why original default on gas account from 2017 is removed and now it shows default on electric account added on file on February 2019 ( which was not showing at any report since March 2019 till June 2019) but they didn't gave any valid answer and said it will remain on file for six years.
I have already contacted Ombudsman services regarding this matter but they concluded the decision in nPower favour stating lack of evidence on my part.
My fault is that I didn't kept record for seven years and now I am stuck with the default on my file for six years.
Need advise please, thanks
