Ppi help

Options
I know I was missold ppi. It was in early 90’s. We always refused ppi then bought a car on finance. We told them we didn’t want or need ppi but they said we had to have it to get the loan.
I used a company a few months back and told them of this - they stated unless I had paperwork they couldn’t help me. It’s 25+ years ago.
It’s from a car dealer in a town I no longer live. How would I go about finding out who the loan was with bearing in mind the company would have changed hands many times? It was a Honda dealership. This was true miss selling but I can’t see a way forward.

Give up, the dealer sold you it so you would complain to them. It's pre regulation so they wouldn't even consider your complaint.
  • I’ve just checked with my bank and the purchase was 2 years before we opened our current bank account so would’ve been with one of 2 accounts. I have no numbers Of these. Not sure if I’m ny name or hubbies!
  • Oh? I don’t understand? I’ve heard of lots of people getting money back from 30+ years ago? What is this different?

You dont need to. The lender has no liability for the complaint as they lender did not sell you the PPI. The car dealer sold it. The car dealer has liability for your complaint.

Its different because its not a bank. Insurance regulation started in January 2005. Car dealers were not regulated prior to Jan 2005. Banks, however, were members of an earlier body. Plus, back in the 80s banks volunteered to consider pre-regulation complaints when financial services regulation started.
  • Ah ok thanks.
Do you think it’s pointless making contact then?

Yes its pointless as you bought around 15 years before car dealers were regulated. No car dealer out there is accepting pre-regulation complaints.
