Shell energy monthly price put up

Hi all

I've just had an email from Shell energy saying they're putting my bill up in September. Its a massive leap, £54 unto £67 a month!

I left my last supplier as they were going to put me upto £64 but now I'll be paying more.

Can I fight this?

Thanks

How much you have to pay is governed by how much you use and the tariff charged.

Question 1 - has your last fix with Shell run out and are you now on a standard rate. ?

Question 2 - are you in debt to Shell ? Look at your last bill ?

Question 3 - has you consumption increased ?

Please post an ACTUAL reading from about 12 months ago and one from today together with your tariff rates/standing charges.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

This does not sound like an energy bill, rather an amount they expect you to pay by direct debit towards your energyconsumption/cost.

Here's a useful article somone previously has linked to over monthly direct debits

Just got the same email today saying they will be putting up our monthly payment by £10. They seem to do this every year even though our usage is well within the projected usage for the whole year (we've been with them for a number of years now). I often have to get them to reset the monthly rate as originally quoted when setting up new tariff as they always want to charge more (funny that!).  So, I am now trying to contact an actual person to stop them from upping up payment as it is absolutely unnecessary - they simply want to get in more money, probably on the dubious notion that it's a precaution in case the late autumn weather is bad or something.  This has happened before as I say so I will most likely change when the tariff comes to an end this time, that's if we haven't already moved as is the plan.

I realise, belatedly, that this is a year old thread but shows it's not untypical of Shell as has been our experience. I am currently waiting in a queue to speak to someone on line (down from 35 to 20 waiting) I wonder if this a result of lots of other dissatisfied customers who have been told their payments are suddenly going up for no valid reason?

Well just had a lengthy chat with someone online and low and behold every three months (an OFGEM directive apparently) they reassess monthly the monthly payment based on "Usage, tariff rates and weather in your area" to identify the potential balance of your account by your next anniversary. I insisted we remain as we were as I was sure we were on track. I've also just noticed they were apparently basing it on our anniversary of August 2021 yet our current tariff finishes at the end of October so little chance of things going badly wrong unless the winter suddenly sets in next month? Anyway, they are resetting our monthly payment to what it should be (again). I will be looking closely at other options when the time comes.
  • I am with Shell, I am £40 in credit with monthly payments of £48, whether or not they increase your monthly payment would depend on how much you are in credit/debit.
    What is your balance?

Why don't you just switch to Variable Direct Debit?  But beware of big bills in the winter !

Hi, I am £38 in credit & Shell without a request from me have reduced my monthly DD by £10 so I have no cause to complain.

Not sure if you are responding to my more recent posting but just to confirm I am currently about evens overall so with a couple of months of lower payments expected I will also be a good £40 credit with just a month or so before my current tariff ends, hence I am well on track to be within my total payments for the year.  What is now clear, having further read the feedback from the online service, is they were basing things on me continuing payments until August 2021 which is strange to say the least because I would have had to go on to a new tariff in November at which point payments are reviewed using the new energy rates and previous years usage. To my mind, either their reassessment system is poor because it can't spot these things or it's a ruse on the part of Shell to extract more money to bolster their coffers (if they do this to lots of other customers) or they feel if a customer has a credit amount it will help to soften the blow of higher rates and make it less likely they will go elsewhere? Of course, I may be over thinking this, which wouldn't be the first time that has been said  :/
