why £1 in 1st Account and Saving account can avoid fees?
It suppose to be:
at least one of the following:
• Paying in at least £1,000/mth (equivalent to an annual salary of £12,500).
• Holding an average monthly balance of £1,000.
• Having a savings, mortgage, credit card, loan or home insurance account with First Direct.

No, just one of the options is needed:

• "You still need to pay in £1000 a month for 6 months to get the leaving bonus" - I have just received my switching bonus. Can I cancel my monthly £1000 in and out standing orders made to avoid the £10 fee? Can they retrieve the switching bonus once it has already been paid?

It depends what you have in mind - if you don't pay in £1,000 every month then you won't have to pay a monthly £10 fee but obviously you'd lose eligibility for the leaving bonus.
Can they retrieve the switching bonus once it has already been paid?
Can you see anything in their Ts & Cs that would allow them to do this?

I never received such an email and the fee is still listed on their charge page https://www1.firstdirect.com/rates-and-charges/charges/ but not on the account page https://www1.firstdirect.com/banking/current-account/

Are there any exceptions such as older accounts opened before a certain date for which the fee may still apply? I've been avoiding the fee with the 1,000 monthly funding clause which I prefer to the more common opening of a savings account but I don't want to risk stopping the funding if they will sting me for a tenner.
