Pay monthly motorbike Insurance for 16 year old

My son is looking to insure his moped and can't afford to pay for the insurance in a lump sum.
To pay monthly the insurers want him to be over 18, as it's a credit agreement.
He has two jobs (+ college) so has an income source, but paying for his moped, CBT, appropriate outerwear, driving license + tax has depleted his savings.
I'm not in a position to help him out any further, are there any other options?

Don't use a moped perhaps. You can only afford to do something if you can, not because you want to. Monthly payment attracts a premium and will pay far more in the long run than an annual fee.

I didn't buy and insure an old banger until 4 years after I passed. Because I couldn't afford to drive

In my village we all used to get mopeds as there was very little public transport, so it wasn’t practical to just say - don’t get a moped as this would mean not working.

Does he have another parent who might make a loan?

Sadly in this age, it is not sustainable either despite having 2 jobs, to unable to pay for his monthly insurance and tax and upkeep of moped and parents unable to contribute

OP try an insurance broker to see if they can break the cost down further, but given the age it may not be cheap still. I purposedly waited until I was beyond 23 before I started to drive as it was cheaper.

Personal choice to drive if you can't afford it and rack up debt or use public transport and save money

The mopeds available, affordable, and insurable for sixteen year-olds in the UK are faster than pushbikes, but not massively so. It’s very likely that they could sell it, get a bike, and cycle.

Or, of course, get back into education to improve their prospects for later. Who on Earth leaves school at sixteen to work nowadays?

The OP says he is in college as well.

    Indeed, I missed that, sorry.

Anyway, no ideas for cheap insurance, I’d say cycling or the bus is going to have to be the way to go.
