I was with Tonik last year and there was no compulsory requirement then. Was it actually tonik, have you phoned tonik directly and asked if it was them that contacted you? They are a small company and as part of the smart meter roll out will have given your info to an installer who will be working in the area on behalf of a whole host of companies. It will be the installer and they usually say "calling on behalf of your supplier".
I did get calls and letters but it was from the installer not Tonik, they use clever sales techniques - I think they get paid by results. I contacted Tonik and they confirmed they don't have installers but pass on details to an installer as they are required to. So you may want to check first.0 -

Tells me what i'm using? I know what i'm using. My PC is on so i'm using juice for that. I need to make a brew so that costs also. I want to watch TV - i have to pay there too. I need the lights on when it's dark - that costs. Not hard to know what is costing me stuff.
It's also not the end of the world to read a meter and submit the figures. Auto-sending is like the auto-wipers on the car ... not really needed. I'm not bothered about who says auto-wipers is the best invention ever ... it's not difficult for me to turn my wipers on when i see it raining, i don't need the car to do it.0 -
I had a quick skim of the T*C on uswitch Nothing about needing a SM that i can see.
Eon and Bulb both had this "E.ON will contact you to offer a free smart meter installation if eligible."

You, and the OP ( assuming you used a comparison site to switch ), jumped the gun and did nt take notice of Uswitchs ( or any other comparison sites ) info first. No t/c s of any suppliers tariffs and plans are contained in a comparison website about any new plan. You would have to link over to BG s or any suppliers main site to see them,, ignoring everything relevant in the comparison site.

What Will I pay
these are the three points of interest anyone switching would have a "quick skim through " where it clearly states in Plan Features and Info "By signing up to this tariff you agree to to book a smart meter installation within 3 months. If you do not book this appointment you may be offered a different tariff with different rates "
Got to admit after seeing under "What will I pay " their gas rates at only 2.7 p /kwh I`m tempted to switch myself.. That is the cheapest gas rate I ve seen since I ve been searching this week ! electric a bit pricey at over 14 p/kwh though
This complaint about the smart meter sweetener tariffs is a regular feature on the Energy Board nowadays.
Remarkable how many people are in such a hurry to click away and switch without taking in a few extra details.. I thought we are all careful money savers on here..seems not .0 -
nic - I’m no longer with Tonik. I switched from them to British Gas.
No issues with Tonik other than price once my deal had ended.0 -

I looked at the electric only tariff only to see what it said, I just expected the cheapest on both types to be the same deal, "if you want cheap you need a SM installed".
And as i said in my last post the 2 others 'elec only' did seem to need a SM installed.0 -
There is software online that you can download for free that analyses the terms and conditions in a software agreement and points out any things it considers out of the ordinary, for example having a smart meter installed as part of the small print. Even if it's so obvious that you spotted it without the software.Someone please tell me what money is0

Is it still the case that after a smart meter install you have 12 months in which to have it removed but then you're stuck with it or is that not the case any more?Highland76 wrote: »But can you provide reasons for not having a SMET2s smart meter?
The annoyance of another socket being taken up. I had more sockets installed when we had the living room ripped out thinking i surely wouldn't use them all & i'd have had enough installed. How wrong was I. I should've had even more put in.0
