Energy Price Cap. So confused :-(
Hello.
Im on a standard tarrif with Scottish Power. I receive the warm home discount so I think this means I qualify for the energy price cap.
When I took this up with SP they offered me new tarrif. £250 per month.
Theyve offered 19.633 day time and 9.395p night time
Is this above the price cap price? This is the rate theyve offered. They say Ofgem set it.

If your tariff is capped, you're paying way over the odds ! Find out your annual consumption in kWh (ACTUAL readings, not estimated ones) then search for a better deal at Citizens Advice and Which?
Forget DD amounts, just compare annual costs. When you've found a good tariff with WHD, check with the CEC and the commercial sites whether it's available with cashback.0 -
The guy at Scottsh Power laughed at my night time consumption saying it was 10 times above average. Ive sent them burn test readings but cannot get anyone to take me seriously. Every comparison site says SP cheapest for me but Im sure the consumption must be wrong.
How do I tell if they have capped my rate?0 -
I wonder if you are reading the meter correctly - on modern meters there is a decimal point which is easy to miss.
Post us todays readings please and if possible a set from an earlier bill where the readings have a letter A or C against them - not E (that means estimated)Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
You need to give a lot more info ! 20 bed mansion or studio flat? 1 person or several extended families? All electric or dual fuel?
Start by checking the meter is really yours (serial number on meter matches that on bill). If it's not in your property, make sure it's not someone else's meter (turn everything off and see whether the reading increases, turn off at the meter and see whether everything in the property goes off). You seem to have a dual rate meter, so check that the day rate isn't being applied to the night register.
If you don't have gas and are using full price daytime electricity for heating you'll certainly get some massive bills.0 -
Today: Rate 4 43489. Rate 1 17105

Your Rate 4 reading has gone DOWN since February???0
-
Assuming that your February readings are correct, you're using more electricity on Rate 4. Check that Rate 4 meter reading is not changing in the daytime.0
