mookybargirl - the shopping trips are usually alone or with my daughter (she occasionally comments but usually just tags along and says nothing).
I am going to try this weekend and not go near the shops. If I can do it this weekend maybe I can do the next one and the next one...
Hi Liz, have found your thread very interesting. I too was a total spendaholic, i used to buy stuff and smuggle it in so my partner didnt see and take all the tags off so he didnt know they were new. The only way i have stopped spending is by not going into town at all!!! If i need something from town now i even get one of the girls from work to pick up what i need so i dont need to go in. I have had to liveon a budget of £130 this month, this included getting food and putting petrol in my car, i didnt think in a milllion years i would manage it. I get paid 2morrow and i still have £10 left in my account! The fridge, freezer and the cupboards are now completely bare but i got through it!!!
It just goes to show that if you are strong willed you can get through this. Looks like you have had a craking day on the money saving side. Keep it up your doing great!!! Paying everything off with your savings is the best thing you can do!!! :T0 -
Everyone - I have found contact lenses cheaper online so i will sort that out tomorrow.
Anyone else who does that - how do you go about getting them checked? I get a yearly contact lens check with my agreement with the optician and I'm not sure how to get this done otherwise. I know I can get a eye test anywhere each year - I must be mad to pay for this in an agreement as I can claim it back once a year from my employer! Maybe the optician just THINKS I need a lens check each year when I guess you can do without it unless you have a problem???
I will do the utlities tomorrow too and the insurance.Wannabe Debt Free Newbie but feeling positive!Ashamed to be where I amHalifax Credit Card (maxed out) £4300 (23.11.07)Grocery spend this week £77.87£2 coins=£14 change jar £14.50:jMoozie's weekly challenge target:think: £20.000 -
Big Ears - thanks for what you said. I will be keeping the gardener for now as I physically struggle to do it and under my lease it's my responsibility to keep it maintained.
I am going to look at utility suppliers though. LizT xWannabe Debt Free Newbie but feeling positive!Ashamed to be where I amHalifax Credit Card (maxed out) £4300 (23.11.07)Grocery spend this week £77.87£2 coins=£14 change jar £14.50:jMoozie's weekly challenge target:think: £20.000 -
Frags - it sounds like we are very alike! When I was married I used to smuggle stuff in too and take labels off and say 'oh no it's not new I've had this for ages'. My first husband never noticed but the 2nd one did! The source of many rows - one famous one when I bought a dress at a fashion show that cost nearly £1000! Under the influence of champagne and my rich best friend. I tried to cancel the purchase the next day but couldn't so ended up with credit notes for a massively expensive shop I have never been in since. The shame!
Avoiding the shops is what I will have to do, I can't be trusted! LizTWannabe Debt Free Newbie but feeling positive!Ashamed to be where I amHalifax Credit Card (maxed out) £4300 (23.11.07)Grocery spend this week £77.87£2 coins=£14 change jar £14.50:jMoozie's weekly challenge target:think: £20.000 -
Shiney Happy - I shop at Tesco and usually do it online - I know I pay for delivery (£4.99 usually) but I tend to buy less impulse stuff that way. I need to get it down.

Flippin heck!!! £1000 on a dress!!! Least you learnt your lesson and thats the main thing. I did go into town the other week and it really depressed me coz there was lots of lovely things i wanted to buy and couldnt,it was really depressing so i didnt bother again! I also go to a supermarket that doesnt have a clothes section so there is no temptation!0

By the way - how do you set up the bit at the bottom of your replies (like some of the others do too) with a synopsis of where you are up to etc. I want to do it too! LizT x
Liz, you go to User CP which is near the top of page, you'll see something for signatures editing/creation there! Trial and error to get something you like the look of....
Keep up the good work, seems like you are really getting into the swing of things!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0
