Faulty freezer after only 6 months

While on holiday my Beko frost free fridge, iced up and the freezer defrosted itself. My son never found it for about 6 days and by that time all the food had defrosted and was stinking. It was so bad that he had to take it straight down the rubbish tip to dump it. To compound the matter all the blood from the defrosted meat soaked in and ruined the carprt. It was smelling so bad it had to be taken up ready again for the rubbish dump

An engineer from Beko came out within 3 days of me coming home and he has reported that the freezer is unrepairable and in fact tomorrow I am receiving a new one from Electrical discount where I bought the freezer from.

This is great news but Beko say I cant claim against them for the freezer full of food I have lost and also the carpet. Food maybe I can understand but when I tried to say that if the freezer hadn't defrosted the carpet wouldnt have been damaged. They say their 1 year guarentee only covers the freezer not anything external

How can this be right??????

I doubt any manufacturer's product guarantee would offer to compensate for consequential loss following the product's failure.

It's right because it's right. The manufacturer isn't liable to you for anything (beyond any guarantee they gave you). The retailer is liable to you for replacing/fixing/refunding the product. Any consequential loss is something you need to insure against.
  • When did the blood get on the carpet?
If the freezer door was closed then it should have formed an airtight and watertight seal so any of the liquid from the defrosted meat should have stayed inside until the door was opened and the problem discovered.
If it has come out at this time and it was cleaned up fairly soon afterwards, the carpet should have been recoverable.
  • As above, Beko owe you nothing - any claim is with the retailer
