Hello
teenage son's laptop developed a problem in that it blue screens during closing down. Ive replaced 1Gb of ram with new thinking its a memory problem but it continues with problem.
My next thought is to full re-install windows XP pro after re-formatting hard drive. Ive backed up all data and can easily re-install software etc
Has anyone got any other thoughts before I go ahead?
cheers

Hi
Yes, we have AVG virus checker running, and have checked for spyware etc etc, even done a registry cleaner/checker. It's still happening!0 -
Usual sympton of the hard drive on it's way out IMO.
Have you done a defrag, and a windows scan disk? Always worth a try.
Backup any important data as a first priority though.
A windows repair using the install disk is an option instead of a full re-install to start with.
My money is on the hard drive though. Send the RAM you bought back though, as it is not that.

A reinstall will probably sort it. Try closing all the running programs manually first.
What does the BSOD say?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
a free registry scan may do it
