Repeat PPI complaint

Hello and some advice please
With some help elderly parent complained to Halifax as they had a mortgage (with another lender taken over by Halifax) and as far as can remember MPPI . Halifax wrote back in Sep 17 asking for more info - unfortunately things going on with dad's health at the time so didn't want to be stressed by finding info. Halifax thus closed the complaint and returned the paperwork.

Could she complain again bearing in mind the looming deadline?

Thanks

Any repeat complaint would likely be time barred. However, as you didn't actually have your complaint considered and cancelled it by not responding you may have a second chance.

Do you know for certain if there was MPPI connected to this mortgage, though? Do you have any documentation? What is your complaint?

Was it MPPI or was it life assurance or was it MIG?
A lot of people mix up those things with MPPI and the further back in time you go, the more likely it is one of the others.

Saying the same again is not going to help. Evidence is needed.

Thanks for the replies...it was quite a time ago and they can't really remember what type of protection it was (i used the term MMPI rather than them) but they are sure there was something. I don't know about the evidence so will have to check that with them again. The mortage i seem to remember was with Leeds Permenant BS which merged with Halifax in 95. In the letter they recieved it states no Halifax mortgage accounts but they never held one with Halifax.

I have suggested they write this time and added in dates and more info that they can remember.

Given they both worked and had reasonably secure jobs may have been missold/poorly advised.
  • As has been mentioned above, evidence will be required particularly if the mortgage redeemed some time ago. Its very likely that documents have been removed due to Data Protection obligations. The Halifax will not be able to check what they do not have
I work in Data Protection and spend my days dealing with CMC's. Only here trying to help!!

Far from that being a reason for complaint, being employed just means they were eligible for the insurance. Regardless of what occurred in the intervening quarter century, very few people are immune to redundancy and so why do you think they were mis-sold this insurance (if they actually had any)? How long ago exactly was this mortgage sold?

Sounds like they've already said they have no records of even the mortgage, let alone any PPI.

By all means contact Halifax again, but I can't personally see this going anywhere without any evidence being produced from your parents' own archive.

Thanks for all the comments...they've been really helpful and probably better to put the letters away and leave as it was as so long ago.

So, almost certainly they would have had a life assurance policy. That was still mandatory back then.

An ASU (as it would have been called back then) would be a third payment. i.e one for the mortgage. One for the life assurance and another for the ASU.

Highly unlikely. Most MPPI complaints get rejected and unless they were police or judges then their job would not be a cause for rejection.
