How do they know my address

Hi all,

I got 1 final reminder in May from a parking company then Northampton County court letter from
solictors regards to a parking fine in 2015.

My issue is how did they know my address it is NOT registered with the DVLA as this is my parents address because I tend to change address a lot. This come, out of the blue, to my new house that I moved into October.

Anyone know how this could have occured?

Kind Regards

    Use of a Trace Agent.

    Does it matter?
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

As above , they used a tracing service like Trace Debt Recovery or similar, nothing sinister in that, probably used a credit reference agency or council voting records, not that it matters because they are supposed to do this

Do not think you can hide in 21st century Britain, your mobile phone and social media are good sources of info as are council records

It is usually quite easy. They can use Electoral rolls, telephone books, Companies House, Trace Agents, etc., etc. As Umko and Redx say, it is of little consequence. What matters is the money claim, can you deflate it in court. Concentrate on that.

Nine times out of ten these tickets are scams so consider complaining to your MP.

Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.

Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies.

Now that you understand how they could have found you, do you want help with the problem? If so, start by reading the sticky thread for NEWBIES, especially post 2 that has a ready written step by step guide to the court process.

The way a tracing company works is simply.
When you move address, if you have any accounts which report to a CRA then when you move it creates an address link between A & B, this link stays on your file for 6 years.
So when they do a search, any forward or back addresses will show up.
