Benefits not paid

Has anyone that is due benefits this morning not been paid? Bereavement pension has not been paid. Guy on the phone says just to wait until Wednesday. This is no good when you miss bills and have no food. Don't know what to do

I do believe that a payment isn't classed as being late until the following day. If you haven't received it by tomorrow then ring again and speak to someone different.
  • It wouldn't be a problem if the payment hadn't gone in every 2 weeks on a Monday for over 20 years and then to be given no reason why it's not going in. People set up payments and wait to do shopping upon receipt of their money. It messes with livelihoods
  • Bereavement Pension? Is this a private pension payment?

If so, you need to be on to the company that is paying it out. It could just be a banking error.

  • It's paid by the DWP and I've contacted them. They say they can see it's paid every two Mondays and it will be paid Wednesday with no reason as to why as I've stated earlier. All I was wondering was if anyone else due payments today had not been paid

There's nothing much you can really do about it aside phone up again tomorrow as it'll be late then officially; as advised.

I get that it's inconvenient though, but nothing else we can tell you.

If you're after anecdotal evidence, then my WTC was paid this morning as usual (though that's HMRC really rather than DWP)

As Poppy12345 said, it's not considered to be late until the day after payment is due. This is because the delay could be caused by the banking system and to pay again today risks double payment and the potential hassle that could cause.
If it's not there tomorrow morning call them again and insist on a same day payment.
  • No matter how hard it may be, you need to find a way to save up a small emergency fund for things like this, to avoid an annoyance becoming an emergency or the start of a downwards spiral.

An emergency fund is a good suggestion and would recommend it to everyone. On the other hand after 20 years you might not have had the luxury to do this.

Have you done a recent check on your entitlements using one of the online checkers? Or have you been to see a debt charity to get a check done?
Unlike some here, I am not omniscient. If I am wrong correct me. I won't take offence.

And possibly keep a stash of foods that wont go off eg pasta, beans etc so you at least can have something to eat.
  • Got through to someone that wanted to help later in the day. Sent it via faster payments. Sometimes it's hard to keep 600+ pounds away for a bad month and that figure doesent include all bills and food shopping. In the current climate it's hard for low earners. Some people genuinely can't go out and earn lots of money.
