Clothes Budgets

Options
How much does your family budget for clothes? I am married with one child.

We are not led by brands or the latest fashions. We never budget for clothes, just use the plastic and worry about when the balance is too big.

I now want to buy clothes using cash, but have no idea how much to put aside each month?

All suggestion appreciated.
stay lucky!
Steve.

Gees thats a hard question to answer - everyone spends such different amounts on clothes and has different priorites - it would also depend on the time of year surely. I think the best thing for you to do is look back over old credit card statements work out how much you have spent on clothes say in the last 6 months and then budget for it that way.

Try £25 per month, per person. Thats a figure plucked out of the air so some will be in shock at the extravegance and others will have spent that on a pair of designer socks yesterday.
Keep a running total of how much is available month by month and save up for several months for bigger purchases.

FTR. In the last three years I spent about £160 on cloths just for myself, and I'm stingy. I don't have a separate budget, it comes out of my 'spending money' of £100 per month.

    A clothes budget?? What's that??

I buy clothes twice a year for the children unless they have a huge growing spurt somewhere in between and stick to the sales when they're on. DH lives in jeans and sweatshirts and these get replaced when they need to.

Me, as a SAHM I don't need much in the way of new clothes and tend to stick to charity shops where I can find the wacky clothes I like wearing at cheap prices :D
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

I'm a clothes shopaholic. It doesn't help that I own my own clothing business and steal most of the stock for myself :-)
  • I have a budget of £30 a week (£120 a month) which gets transferred from our main joint bank account to another bank account (sole) used purely for my allowance, as I call it. I tie this up with a credit card which is attached to the allowance account. I shop and spend what I like, paying with my credit card, then pay it monthly with the money in the sole a/c. Sometimes I spend more, sometimes less. I thought £130 a month was a reasonable amount for a wife to spend on clothes (stay-at-home wife, no kids). My husband calls this my 'little bit of ME money' for being a good wife :D .

My partner gives me only £100 a month but does allow me to save my 1.5K a month in my choice of investment account.

Hard one that, i guess i budget what i have when i know the kids need new stuff, the baby needs new clothes every three months or so, the other three well, they need shoes and school uniform and the rest of it comes out of what spare cash i have, i think the key is to live within your limits and think ahead.
