Second hand tow bar

How on earth are prices from 15 years ago to a (highly likely) completely different car to the OP relevant in the slightest?:T0 -
Find your local towbar fitting place and see if they can source and fit a used setup for you - you'll still get a proper job and save a bit of money.
But really, unless you really know what you are doing I'd just buy a new kit from a reputable dealer and do it safely. No point spending hundreds (or thousands) on a caravan to lose it on a bend because you wanted to save £100 on the towbar.0 -

They are often cheaper now than they were back then.
For my car a fixed flange towbar was always the cheapest by a long shot. £80 - £100 for a fixed flange towbar and £250-£300 for a detachable one. Not its £70 - £80 for a flanged one and £110 for a detachable one.
For an older car the prices are very similar. Cheaper part but possibly slighly more labour charge, so it balances the price a bit.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I bought one from my local car dismantlers a few years ago. They had a car the same as mine and took it off it and sold it to me. I fitted it myself. If I remember correctly it was about £30-40. They are awkward to fit though. More awkward than fitting an exhaust.0

Hi, I bought a 2nd hand towbar for my Honda Civic from Ebay, I bought it because it was a Honda supplied towbar with Honda wiring.
A big word of caution! Can you fit it yourself?
I had big problems getting a fitter to do this job, they want to supply & fit. Some 2nd hand ones could have parts missing.
I was lucky, we went to Poland in the car this year & I took the tow bar with me & had it fitted there for 200PLN (£40)0 -
Witter, Westfalia or Brink towbar and wiring with a Honda label and double the price?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

The Honda tow bar is actually made by Bosal, but it was for the genuine wiring that I wanted to buy it.
You are right that it is probably double the price of a comparable tow bar, that is why I bought it 2nd hand. The fitted coat was only £165, which was a bargain.0
