Uc new claim due to moving out area

Hi I was getting Esa and in the support group up. I unfortunately had to moved and this was out the council area so my housing benefit stopped. I'm going round in circles looking for answers. I applied for universal credit online couldn't verify myself. Can't apply for an advance payment application still be reviewed? Also I've listed my medical issues do I still need fit notes? And will my esa payment stop? The jobcentre esa advisor said I still should get my money next week because it takes awhile before dwp inform them of my uc claim. I have no money for rent or anything. Advice please.

Any income based ESA will stop from the date you claimed UC. Any contribution based ESA will continue and your UC will be reduced by the amount of ESA.

Because you are in the Support Group you should get the LCWRA element in your UC from the start. In practice it takes time for the DWP to migrate the information, in the meantime UC will ask for a Fit Note.

If you have not been able to verify your identity online you must ring the help line and make a JobCentre appointment to verify your identity. You must do this within 7 days.

You will also have to agree a Claimant Commitment for UC (but because you have LCWRA this will not be onerous).

Lots of information here and on linked pages https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/before-you-apply/moving-to-universal-credit-from-other-benefits/

  • Hi thanks it's been over 7 days to verify myself, will I have to reapply?

Check your online journal to see if there are any tasks shown for you to do. Ring the helpline tomorrow to find out about making an appointment 0800 328 5644.

You need to do this as soon as possible. DWP may already have issued a notice to end your income based ESA.

Just to check. Can you confirm whether you get any disability benefit and if so do you have a Severe Disability Premium in your ESA?

Make sure you ring and make an appointment tomorrow then. That should keep your claim on track.

Once the LCWRA is successfully transferred across you should get more money on UC than ESA, £654.02/month (if you are 25 or over) plus help with rent. This is equivalent to £150.92/week.

Do read the information I linked to earlier. I am a firm believer that it is easier to manage a claim if you have some understanding of how it all works. Good luck.
