My new suzuki Jimny has gutters, and very good they are too. I can open the door with water on the roof and it doesn't cascade onto the drivers seat like a waterfall as the car leans over.

why is it leaning over?
When you open a door, and it swings out, the vehicle leans slightly that way, just enough so all those balls of water on the roof can run towards the open door, and drop straight down onto the seat, because all those beautifully aerodynamic water seals are now on the bit of the car that is missing.
I had the old Jimny for 9 years, and lost £900 on the sale price.
(And spent £4,000 on maintenance probably, but that doesn't count when we talk about depreciation)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Oh, don't get me wrong - I quite like it, and I admire Suzuki for actually building it. (Although I rather suspect there's going to be a lot of disappointment among some of the customer base when they realise that it's just another rolling computer under the skin...)
But, then, I own a series Landy, amongst other crimes against fossil fuel conservation.
Yes, it is quite frightening the amount of frankly unnecessary electronics that is just waiting to go wrong- even the steering has gone from ultra-reliable hydraulic to some sort of electric steering column.:(
I had 2 series Landrovers, a "Classic" Rangerover, and a 200TDi 110. They always needed fixing- never once failed to complete a journey though.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

It is how "Legendary LandRover reliability" started (when it wasn't sarcasm)
Broken spring? Jack it up and wedge something over the axle- take it steady.
Terrible rattle? - take it steady
Broken halfshaft?- stick it in 4wd- take it steady
Front driveshaft exploded, jammed steering? - strip the hub and take it out
etc....
The IIA always needed welding, and I strayed from the faith and did without for a couple of years, then got a III, had that a good 10 years, the chassis patches had met in the middle
Then got a terrano, with independent suspension, never really got on with it.
RangeRover 4door Efi - the rot was incredible, except the chassis.
Went back to a defender 110, too much rust, and too big, if it had been a 90 I'd have put a new chassis on it and still had it.
Prices have shot up now, you can at least put a zero or two at the end of what I bought and sold them for now, should have just kept them really
The jimny is fine, seperate chassis and live axles, part time 4wd like a Proper series coil sprung like the defender, with a small parkable size (comparable to a series I), a heater that works, and a dry cabin.
I don't get this whole "retro" thing, as I still live in the 1970s, everything I call "proper/normal" is now labelled "retro" and again has an extra zero stuck on the end of the price :rotfl:I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
