Spousal Soft search from Shop Direct

So my other half has ordered some clothes from H&M online and in the process created a Shop Direct credit account in their name.

How do I know this?
Because Shop Direct did a soft search of myself with Equifax...

Since I'm not a party to the account, just a financial connection, this seems a bit excessive.
Thoughts?

  • It matters not.
If your financially connected through other products (joint account, mortgage etc) then they are allowed to check partners records as well.

Plus it’s only a soft search - likely to confirm address or identity.

OK fair enough, Although it's the first time I've encountered this searching of connected parties.
