Cancelling trouble with Snap Fitness

Their selling point is that it's a 24/7 gym. This gym is occasionally staffed.

Seems it's not the easiest task to cancel. Reading the T&Cs the notice period is a bit cheeky. You need to give 30 days notice and then they can only cancel at the end of the month, so unless you're giving notice on the 1st of the month in a 31 day month then you're giving 2 months notice.
Currently in a situation where they're promising to email cancellation forms out but then just not bothering. It's difficult to get to the gym during their staffed hours and then when you do there's no staff there.


I'm guessing it's not as easy as you can't just cancel your direct debit (which is on a current account, not a credit card).

Post an old fashioned letter of cancellation with proof of posting. cancel direct debit after last required payment is made

That's correct - unless the contract says that the contract can be terminated by cancelling the direct debit (which it probably doesn't).

If you just cancel the direct debit without terminating the contract, you will just run-up a debt, that gets bigger each month.

Read your agreement - some gyms supply membership on finance and if that is the case, missing a payment can put a default on your credit history.

If there is no finance then personally in the circumstances I'd have emailed them over on the day I cancelled and then cancelled the DD after the last payment had been taken (to cover when the contract should have ended).

They're not going to get far claiming you haven't cancelled because you haven't filled out a form they never sent you. Even under CCRs, traders have to supply a model cancellation form but there is no requirement for the consumer to actually use it when cancelling.

Had thought about that - but there's no letterbox on the door.
Wondering if that's because it's open 24/7 because any random Joe will be stepping on their post in a morning.

CANCELLATION. After my right to cancel period noted earlier (if any), I may cancel my membership by giving notice by filling out a cancellation form at my home club. If collection or legal services are needed to collect any unpaid amount, I am responsible for all costs of collection, including solicitor’s fees of Club Owner and/or Licensor. If I die or become totally or permanently disabled, upon reasonable written notice to the Club with proof of the death or disability, either I or my estate may cancel this Agreement and receive a prorated refund of the unused portion of membership fees incurred.

Doesn't say anything about writing off letters, emails, phone calls. Seems to suggest you can only cancel by filling out their special form...which they seem reluctant to give. Shock horror.

No letterbox but neither does my local Pure Gym. still gets mail deliveries though
Postie will have a process to deliver. In the Pure gyms they buzz or if they are members they just key in and find a staff member/drop off point.

Well i've tried them via email & since the guy thought i was looking to book an appointment he was quite quick with the replies.


I've emailed to mention a cancellation form so we'll see what happens. If it doesn't come about on Monday they'll be getting a letter, an email, their online form filled out and if a contact for head office can be found that will be getting one as well all on the same day and the direct debit will be cancelled 30th September, or probably best to be 1st October. If they say no notice was given they'll get asked which one would you like to be used against you.
