Wrong paint on bathroom ceiling
ferry

I need to repaint my bathroom ceiling but looks like the last owners have used a basic emulsion which bubbles and cracks when we shower.
Any advice on how to prepare the surface for proper bathroom paint please to avoid this happening?
Thank you

It doesn't sound like the paint is a problem but that a mist coat wasn't used so the paint isn't adhering to the plaster.0

Sorry what do you mean by a mist coat please?:j0

A mist coat is a thinned coat of paint applied to fresh plaster to at as an undercoat and to help the next layer of paint to key0

Oh ok. Will that work on a previously painted surface?
Or is the suggestion replastering the ceiling?
Thanks:j0 -
If the original paint is coming away from the plaster, you'll have to scrape off all the loose stuff and then apply a mist coat. After that, further coats of paint should stick fine.
We had this same problem with a bathroom ceiling - one of those cases where it's more work to rectify a job than it would have been to do the job right first time around.0 -
I'd probably scrape the loose paint off, sand lightly and clean thoroughly. Then prime the ceiling either with mist coat or for less mess but more money - primer (like zinser 123) or ready made fresh plaster paint (screwfix? Not sure if it comes in small volumes). Then paint with bathroom paint (I prefer zinser perma white but have also used dulux).0
