Need website creation tool/software for novice

Hi, I am going to create a couple of websites that are to sell products. I am creating the site for someone and I don't want to have to maintain it much after - they'll need to do that.

I'm going to create the basic site in Dreamweaver, and would like a tool/program I can inbed in the site that will let the person I'm going the site for add products, upload images include price etc. (Sort of like when someone adds items to eBay, but instead adds it to their own website.).

Can anyone recommend some software or service for this (preferably free!")

Many thanks.

  • Hi Chuckle,
I don't think that you will accomplish this with Dreamweaver, it would just make everything too complicated.

You need to go in the direction of Joomla and PHP - content management websites, using templates.
We are in this business of making websites for clients so that they can update themselves. We have just done a Joomla site, including ecommerce shop with secure payments.
It's really not that much work and the templates allow you to add plug-ins to the site - e.g. calender mail forms
You also customize the layout, add your graphics, colour schemes, and the end user gets a username and password to edit the site through a control panel - which is very easy for a novice.

Dreamweaver is not going to be an easy option for a novice.

    Best wishes
  • Joomla templates are free, and there are some fancy ones you pay for too.!
  • Dreamweaver is pretty easy to get along with, it does most stuff for you, you just drag and drop, copy and paste, point to this point to that, try a 30 day free trial from adobe and see what it does, I'm a novice and built 4 sites with it, not very advanced looking sites I must admit, as said above that jamoola looks nice.
There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...
  • thanks for you help.

    I'll look in to that.
