Tax on PPI Refund following death of husband

Options
I recently filled in one of those PPI forms on Facebook and to my surprise I was able to get a PPI refund . My bank rang me to say they could also see if my late husband was owed anything ... it turns out he was and quite a lot. This was all in respect of a loans we’d taken out around 15 years ago!
I understand how the tax works on my refund but I don’t know how it works in the money I e been given I respect of my late husband.
My husband died 4 years ago ; I have the grant of probate ...
Can I reclaim the tax paid on the interest for PPI as it formed part of my husband’s estate in which case can I go back and change the probate form?
Or
Do I need to declare the interest as my own income?
Or
Something else?
Any help appreciated! Thanks.

It will have been a CMC advertising on Facebook...
  • It doesn’t matter about the Facebook contact? They were only acting on behalf of me not my late husband. The bank rang me direct and sorted out the amount I was owed.
What I want to know about is the tax /lncome status of the money I have received?

Yet another post that I draw breath at. In a 1 post way.

You can claim tax back no problem.

Thank you. I don’t suppose you know if I need to do anything with the Probate as it now takes me over the amount I declared although it’s still under the limit or should I just leave it?

It really does..you've now asked a question about it. Why not provided the facebook link?
  • I’m asking the question about the tax status. I haven’t asked a question about Facebook? Are you here to help or not? If you don’t know about the tax status of deceased PPI recipients then don’t reply.

    .....

The interest received is part of your husband’s estate.

Since the estate is not entitled to a personal allowance, all income is taxable

So there is no refund due.

    Just enjoy spending the windfall.:)

Err, no you can't. See above.
