Just found out I have a CCJ I knew nothing about - next steps?!

I would like to curl up in a ball and cry right now! I will try and keep this short! I left the UK in May 2014, went backpacking around Australia with my Fiancee, he was nice enough to ditch me on my birthday and left me in the middle of a Vineyard, I survived and ended up going to New Zealand where I have been living for the last 4 years. The last 2 I was in a horrid relationship (yes, I do well!) and I got brave enough and left him 2 weeks ago and was back on the plane to the UK 3 days later!
I've since been fighting hard to get back on my feet while staying on my Dad's sofa in a town I do not know and will be getting back to my hometown soon hopefully (already got a job interview yay!). Anyway I've just been applying for a room in my hometown and they have done a check on me and I apparently have a CCJ I know nothing about!
I came back last year for a 6 week holiday and opened a Halifix bank account at my cousins house where I was staying and it has that address on it but my cousin has never told me anythings came through the post about this so I've been stupidly unaware!
I know the amount is for 5,600, the reference number and the judgement date was 6th June 2019 (when I wasn't in the country)
I'm wondering what my next step should be?! Do I need to dispute it because I wasn't aware the debt was going to Court, or do I need to contact them and arrange a payment plan? If the latter how is it worked out how much I can afford to pay as a reasonable amount?
I've never had to deal with anything like this is my life so not only is it scary after everything I've already just been through I have no idea how any of it works and what to do!

Given you weren't in the country I'm not sure you can dispute it on the basis you weren't aware, of course you wouldn't be.
I don't think you'll have much chance of having this set aside, even if the ex has fraudulently used your card. If he drove off with your belongings (or some of them) you should have been on the phone to your bank, HSBC etc to cancel your card immediately.
But I'd be tempted to shop the ex for fraud anyway...0 -
Can you prove the “fraudulent” activity?0

I don't think I can prove it. I'm willing to pay it just for the ease or getting it sorted once and for all but I'm worried I'm going to be left poor for years to come, especially as I've not started working yet and will have other costs to get set up first and on my feet (deposit on a place, bedding, etc!)0

Why is it not simply someone with the same name and DOB ?0

why are you willing to pay 6000 debt you no nothing about!
Sounds strange, id start with finding out what the debt is and who it belongs to if it is a fraud one.0
