Car Ins Claim With Wrong Reg

Can anyone advise please... My wife reversed into a parked car yesterday, she exchanged insurance details, all was amicable. When we went to log a claim on the car insurance website, we noticed we hadn't updated the car reg from the original one we got with the car last November, to the private plate we put on it a few months ago.

Should we notify the Insurance company that we have a different reg on the car now, before putting the claim through or are they going to use that as an excuse not to pay out?

Would it be better to process the claim using the original car reg and ask the person claiming against my wife to also use the old reg?

No, don't be making a false statement or requesting the third party to do so

Give the correct reg straight away to your insurer!

(1) Tell the truth
(2) A minor error, such as an incorrect registration number, will not affect the handling of the claim provided that there is no serious doubt that the car you insured was the one that was involved in the accident and it wouldn't have made any difference to the premium you would have paid (unlikely).
