Chromebook vs laptop: Which should you get?.

I bought a Chromebook about 4 years ago to retire my 10 year old windows lappy. Loving the Chromebook and lightening access to the internet. Unfortunately that's where it stops. I kept my win lappy in the draw for the occasion I need to use Windows and those occasions have become permanent because quite simply the Chromebook is totally unsupported with applications so if you want to do anything other than access the web you'll still need a Windows lappy. In fact I'm now looking at a new windows laptop because my old one is to allow but can't be retired by the Chromebook. I think if I do get a new windows lappy I might also sell the Chromebook

What sort of thing do you turn to the windows machine for?

In theory you can write letters on a Chrome book, using the Google apps, but I don't like those very much so I'll take some convincing to give up a proper laptop/PC.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

In practice you can do this too.I use both Google's apps and Microsoft Online apps for wordprocessing and spreadsheets, with no difficulty. Considering I probably only write one letter a week, it's not really a hardship to switch my brain over to that software (I use Word at work) and it's soooooo much cheaper.

Given my recent use of a Chromebook, I would say stick it's better to stick with the devil you know. The Acer Chromebook I used seemed to boot up no quicker than a laptop with an SSD drive installed, slow application loading times and bare bones software installed.

What make and model is your laptop? You might be able to buy some RAM and an SSD drive for it and it will outperform the Chromebook by a country mile.

why dont you tell us the make and model and ram size of your old laptop, because there is a chance the we will suggest to spend £20-£100 for a new ssd, and to purchase more memory? What do you current use it for?

Want something that really flies, and is useful too has a browser and a word processor etc, it runs from a usb stick or a cd - puppy linux
