You can't always expect to transfer numbers between providers. We recently switched from VM to BT and they both swore blind that the other provider had to transfer the number as we requested.

Which seemed ironic as managing phone connections is their bread-and-butter so they ought to be able to handle a straightforward switch. Turns out either or both of them dropped the ball and we have a new number now.

So I now have another issue along the same lines, this time with my dad.

He is also with Now broadband and I arranged to switch him to TalkTalk.

Everything was going fine and the TalkTalk order details confirmed the phone number was transfer over.

A few days before the switch was due to take place TalkTalk emailed to say that there was a problem with the order and that my dad couldn’t keep his phone number. Rather than proceeding with the order TalkTalk default approach is to cancel the order so that you don’t get a different phone number.

So this is twice now with 2 different phone lines that there’s been a failure to transfer a number out of NowTV. NowTV are effectively holding my dad hostage because he can’t change his provider without losing his phone number.

Does anyone know what is going on and how to fix this?
