As suggested by JONESMUFCFOREVER her bank statement should be examined! Is it possible she has not noticed that the cash has been returned?".....where it is corrupt, purge it....."0

I hope this is been sorted now.
As others have said the money would have bounced back if the account was closed but transferred to another bank if the closed account was switched the other option which could be possible if the Account was closed due to bad debt but the account still holds a balance and it's gone against this but as far as you are aware the account has been closed, but still open in the back office. Did you get a closing statement when it was closed?
of course it could have bounced back and they are hiding this information from you, a payment confirmation was from when it was sent and could still bounce back, get them to show the money leaving the account and not being returned.

Ed-1 was right. The funds popped up in bank C, holders of my current account, on the same day that the friend made the transfer. I should have checked earlier - but the reason I didn't think to check is because when I physically visited both bank A and bank B for advice, their representatives quite clearly advised me that a transfer to a closed account was not possible. None of the four people I spoke to mentioned the notion that a transfer to a switched account would pass seemlessly through to the bank C, the switched-to account.
Moral of story: A don't take any advice from financial professionals at face value, and B always ask the Good Folk on MSE froums for a second opnion. :Trgds,

And C. read the FAQ’s of when using CASS to switch an account

What happens to payments that people send to my old account?
The Current Account Switch Service will redirect payments to your new account. Each time an electronic payment is redirected an automatic message is sent back to the originator advising them of the new account details so they can update their records. Some organisations may contact you directly to confirm your details have changed.0 -
I think I did read the info., at the time - I faintly remember deciding the switch feature sounded good and was one of the reasons I decided to go for that sort of arrangement. But you guys are all just so accessible, in a way that the FAQs aren't! Real people, with context-relevant suggestions.rgds,
Mr S0
