I think it may be helpful to name the dealer/converter so that others know to avoid them or at least be wary of any promises/claims made by them.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

I will be happy to do this once I'm in a position that, whatever is going to happen, doing so wouldn't make my life difficult (if you see what I mean).lincroft1710 wrote: »I think it may be helpful to name the dealer/converter so that others know to avoid them or at least be wary of any promises/claims made by them.
Thank you for the info above too, regarding the MOT being online. It appears I have been living under a rock :rotfl:
I'm going to speak to the finance company when they open, see what they say. My DH is more angry than I and is being somewhat reactionary, he wants me to demand that we are reimbersed for the last nearly year's finance payments, seeing as the van isn't technically ours :rotfl: whilst I don't believe for a second that that is A) reasonable or
ever going to happen if anybody has an idea as to if there is some kind of recourse then let me know! 0 -
however, when you spend a small fortune on a van from a "reputable" (word used loosely) dealer and you are told it has 12 months MOT, you tend to believe them.
Trust but verify when dealing with the vehicle trade I'm afraid.
Also for next time; refuse to collect and pay for the car until everything is in order, it's so much easier to get them to do stuff whilst you're waving a commission in front of them than after.0 -

Regardless of the status of the V5 the van isn't yours until it's paid for, it belongs to the finance company.0 -
The V5C is perfectly clear, in big letters, that it's nothing to do with who actually owns the vehicle.I'm going to speak to the finance company when they open, see what they say. That being said, what kind of finance do you have? It may well be that the finance house own it anyway... And it may be that getting them involved in leaning on the supplier could prove effective.
But let's go back a step. There are three issues, right?
1. V5C. No problem - £25 plus a V62 to DVLA, and you'll get a V5C in your name.
2. MOT expiry date. No problem - just re-test it. It expired four months earlier than you expected, so that's effectively going to cost you an extra 1/3 of the £50 test...
3. Spare key. No problem, just get one sorted. Oh, and get it done properly, with all keys that aren't in your possession being removed from the van's security... Don't just clone the key you have.
Once they're done, that's it, right? No outstanding issues. Just add the converter to the list of people who will never see your money again, and get on with life. And all for a relatively small outlay. About £40 plus the cost of the key.0 -
So I have spoken to the finance company who were absolutely no help at all and have just advised me to go to trading standards *sigh*0

Oh have things changed? I was in contact with trading standards regarding a cowboy mechanic (I get the feeling this isn't exactly the most trustworthy trade), I didn't go through CAB then, phoned them direct.I mean you can't contact trading standards. You'll have to use the Citizens Advice Bureau.0
