Top up pension to the limit - 55% UK shares, 45% UK Gilts

Gilts are yielding less than the rate of inflation.
  • OK, I'll spend the gilts element on hookers and booze instead

I would put it in my SIPP over the next few years. iShares Core MSCI world ETF.

What you should do with it is quite possibly very different of course.

Depends on how old you are.
You can't access a pension until you're 55 at present but that may change.
If you're fairly young then it's probably a bit risky, especially as you might end up employed with high pension contributions and hit the lifetime limit. If you're nearing 55 then a company contribution could be good as it reduces corporation tax and you can get 25% tax free.
If you don't have investments then I would start adding to an ISA and premium bonds.
Problem with property is that it's not easily realisable so I'd make sure there are a couple of years money elsewhere first.

If you are lucky enough to surf the wave and happen to pay some tax. Then be grateful for your good fortune.

I would max out pension contributions first.
    Max out S&S ISA.
    Invest in classic Motor Cycles.
