Getting companies to provide delivery dates

Right it has now been 13 weeks since I ordered my sofa and the delivery date is finally a week (or mabye two) away. I have been calling the company to try to get a delivery date but all they will tell is is either sometime during the week begining 3rd December or week beginning 10th December - but then again it could be after christmas but they hope that will not be the case! Surely with only a week to go now they must know where and when the vans will be going! I work on a rota system at work and I need to tell them on monday my commitments are and 'i may but may not be having a sofa delivered some time this week' does not cut it for a rota!

Any experiences of forcing delivery dates out of companies. I don't see what the big secret is!

Hi, was given the advise to make a delivery date "contract " at the point of sale,either verbally or preferably on the sales invoice,making it a condition of sale that the item is delivered by such and such a date - if the goods are not delivered on time you then reserve the right to cancel your order and go elsewhere !
Its amazing how many sales people will agree to this !
