Incorrect advice from MSE energy club

I was recently advised by energy club emails that my energy tariff was coming to an end on 18th September. The email stated I could progress changing supplier to avoid an steep increase in energy bills. I was also advised that the no fee’s would be applicable because I was in the last 49 days of my contract no exit fees would be applicable. On this basis I used the comparison tool and progressed with a switch. I then received an email from my supplier stating that early exit fee’s would be applicable. On contacting my current supplier they notified me that my contract end date was actually 30th September (and not 18th sept as advised by MSE) and therefore I was not within the 49days to avoid early exit fee’s.

I now have to cancel my switch and reapply after the correct 49 day switch date but am a little annoyed that I have be misinformed by MSE and have now a load of admin hassle. Anyone else in this boat?

I've now cancelled the switch but MSE energy club is sating I am in progress to switch so cant now progress with another contract. As I am now not outside the 49day limit.

Surely it's your responsibility to make sure that your personal details held by the CEC are always kept up to date?

Just do a comparison with Citizens Advice and switch when your contract allows you to do so penalty free.

Yes, just remember to put in the correct details this time.

When entering your tariff details into CEC it asks you to fill in the end date.

To get the switch in progress marker removed contact CEC energyclub@moneysavingexpert.com
