How to chop bits out of a video?

My wife follows a 20-minute routine on an exercise video every day, but gets annoyed by the time wasted by all the talking between individual exercises. I've managed to copy the routine off the DVD on to her laptop for her, and would now like to chop out the annoying bits.
I've searched the internet and it looks like there are free doings available which will let me do that, but I'm worried about downloading something nasty along with the doings. So the question is, can anybody please recommend something simple that's free which will let me do the job without risk?
This is up-to-date Windows 10 with Windows Defender on, and we have the free version of the Malwarebytes thingy.

not sure if it will do what you want but there is a video editor app in win10. goto start > video editor
if it is not installed on your version of win10 i think that there is also a video editor within the photos app"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -
Oh ta ever so! I'll have a look at that later on - starting with trying to find a video of how to use it ...

if the video editor is not in your start menu check that you have the latest updates installed"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

I use a mixture of Windows Movie Maker & Sony Vegas for this job.0

Checked and present, thanks

OK ... I may well be wrong about this, but it seems to be the case that Windows Video Editor can shorten the length of a video, but not chop bits out of it.
Can anybody please suggest a free alternative? We're all doomed0 -

Thank you, but unless it's me that's missing something, that how-to confirms what I thought i.e. you can only use it to "trim" a video. You can move the start point and the stop point, then save the bit between them as your "new" video.
What you can't do is what I want to do, which is chop bits out. By that I mean for example delete the bit between 1'20" and 1'53", then the bit between 2'34" and 3'07" etc. We're all doomed0 -

Just choose to install only the application that you need.0
