Section 75 refund on construction

I've heard of people getting the cost of repairing a faulty car or the difference after selling it refunded using section 75. Would the same apply for a construction project? For example, if I got my loft extension paid for on a credit card and it was a botched job, would the bank give a refund?

The card company are equally liable for any problems when purchasing goods or services within a specified price range so if you had a genuine claim against the builder and they either refused to pay or went out of business you could claim against the card company

it is up to the card company to then evaluate the claim and decide what if any they will pay

Is this a hypothetical question or have you paid a construction firm by credit card?

The reason I ask is that in my experience building companies that accept credit cards are not that common, especially smaller ones.

S75 claims for home improvements, extensions, kitchens, bathrooms etc. are very common.

If its a botched job and this is clear at completion, or prior to it, then you will have the option of a chargeback available (full refund) and/or S75 (full refund or repair costs).

If you can get it all paid by credit card it gives you more options (or chances) of being able to get help if things go wrong,

Hypothetical. I'm possibly doing a loft extension in 3-5 years or so. Builders don't accept card payment typically but I'm sure it will count if you took out the cash or transferred the credit card balance to your current account.

What is it that makes you sure of this?

No it wouldn't. That's a cash advance. You need to make a purchase with the card.
