Hit a tree

Last week I was driving on a narrow country road and turning a corner there was a large horsebox and bus. Luckily I was going very slowly and swerved to the side of the road so stopped without hitting the vehicles.
At that point me and my passenger thought I had scratched my car and due to there being no safe place to stop I continued driving. When I got out I realised there was damage to the front panel which has impacted my ability to open the passengers door so it won’t be a cheap repair.
I have not got any years no claim bonus and have just had my quote through for renewal and the cost is half what I paid last year. My question is if I hit another car or caused damage to a property then I know I would need to inform the insurance company but I don’t know the legal position of not informing the insurance company when the only damage that was done was to my car and whether I need to inform them or not.
If I have to inform them my premium will go up I presume and I will claim as the reality is I don’t have a mass of no claims bonus to lose. However if I don’t have to inform them then I will get it fixed without informing them!

Technically you MUST inform them. However you may decide not to and risk being found out. Only you can weigh up that risk and decide.
Most people would NOT report it.0 -
I would not report it.0

How refreshing to see a post where the OP is not trying to blame the tree/horse in the horsebox/passengers on the bus etc for the damage to their car0

I shall go with not reporting it!!
Haha bigisi sadly as we are both entitled to be on the road it was just pure Sod’s law so it is what it is and I’m just glad that it wasn’t worse! I can’t say that I haven’t cursed the wretched tree to high heaven mind!0
