Transit insurance during house move

I've recently been getting removals quotes from various firms but the transit insurance they all offer seems very costly and covers a figure much greater than I need. Is there anywhere I can buy transit insurance separately and for a reasonable price? I understand that such insurance is optional but I'd feel happier if I had something in place during the move. Thanks.

Check with your current contents insurance, you may find you have cover with that anyway. Or take out a new contents policy with a company that will cover your move.

As above, I just called my current insurance company and found out I was covered - up to £50k I think. I had to email the relevant page of my policy to the movers and they removed that part of the quote from the bill.

No doubt every policy has its exclusions. I moved a few years ago with the removal company packing which they charged very little more for. The attraction of not living in chaos for weeks before the move made it seem very reasonable but in addition the insurance would have only covered breakages of fragile objects if the removers had packed them.
