I was rear ended by the 3rd party with a undrivable car. After telling my insurance, I called the 3rd party insurance company directly (direct line), and started a claim.
After a couple of days the claim was accepted, and they sent a hire care, and advised a garage would call.

After 4/5 days, Direct Line are now saying the claim is on hold, and is taking back the hire car, and placed a hold on the garage picking up the car for repair.

They say the claim is on hold as they are trying and failing to contact the policyholder and have given them a 14 day notice to respond. They suggested I claim through my insurance, I said why should I when they and their customer are liable.

The policy holder wasn't the driver of the car, is was their daughter and accident liability has never been disputed. I suspect the 3rd party was fronting and their insurance company suspects it. Can the 3rd party insurance stop the claim if this is the case?

The problem will be there's no corroboration of the incident

If you cannot wait the time period before they will continue on a without prejudice basis then your alternative is to claim off your own policy now

    Yes, it does seem likely.

The 3rd party driver informed us their dad (the policyholder) called up Direct Line. But seems likely either one was telling porkies. Initially, Direct Line also told us they were contacted by the insurance holder, however, they are now saying they cannot confirm it.
