annual cc statement discrepancy - overpayment?

in Credit cards
looking for clarification.
my annual cc statement has just came in & it states the following:
"total amount repaid between 2 August 2018 and 1 August 2019: 5,720.21 "
"Spend on your credit card between 2 August 2018 and 1 August 2019: 5,436.42 "
why have i paid MORE back than i have spent? Does that mean they owe me money?
there have been NO interest or fee charges over that period & both state zero on the statement.
Any ideas?

The statement is strictly payments received and spending in that period. Some of the payments will relate to spending prior to the period of the annual statement. One of my cards shows spending as £1.11 and repayments £5263.00 :eek:0

But why would they put specifically in relation to that period, or would the difference be in relation to payments being a month in arrears?0 -
Because the regulations state that it has to be the last 12 months.0

As zx81 says, that's what they have to do according to regulation - only payments in and payments out during that 12 month period are recorded on the statement. They also tell you on the statement (usually) why there may be a discrepancy between the two amounts (for full payers) and, as you have now observed (and as molerat pointed out) payments are usually about a month behind the expenditure to which they relate.0
