No Gas bill for 18 months.
18 month ago, I moved into a new build. I stayed with the provider who was already supplying the development.
After a few weeks the electricity swapped over but not the gas. I rang them and asked about it, told there were delays it would be another 6-8 week.
After another 3 months, still no connection, rang again, same story.
This has been going on now for 18 months and I'm still not receiving Bill's despite my smart meter showing my usage.
I have kept in contact with my supplier and just been fobbed off every time, with oh it will be another x weeks. With hindsight, I should have been more demanding but life gets in the way and you forget about it day to day.
I'm terrified of a massive billing hitting my doorstep as a result of this.
Also, as they have been supplying my electricity I've been waiting for my gas to connect to get onto a dual fuel tariff, so have been paying a higher rate for my electricity.
What's my best option now? Just leave the company? Ombudsman?
What are my options if and when the bill arrives?
Thanks
Thanks

You have used the gas, so what you should have done was to start saving some money for when the gas bill eventually drops through your letter box.
The assumption would have been based on what you were paying in our previous house.
I would also call when the bill arrive to see if you could negotiate a discount for being years late0 -
if you have a smart meter you will know what you have used so the bill should not be a surprise.
I had a 9 month period when i wasnt billed last year, i called them and asked for a bill to be generated and within a few hours my bill was ready.
It was for around £600 but as i had been paying by standing order each month i was still in credit.
If you have been putting enough away each month (in line with your usage) you should be ok0 -
If you're brave enough to do nothing, you might benefit from their being unable to back bill for more than 12 months !0

If it's the supplier's fault that you haven't been receiving bills, then the back billing rules apply. They aren't allowed to bill you back more than one year. That's Ofgem rules. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

If you have remained with the same supplier, what is there to swap over???
How's your parking ticket going :cool:0 -
The 'swap' is to transfer the billing from the developer to the OP, which should date from the date of purchase or occupation. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I had (sort of) the same thing when I bought a new build in 2005, except my bills were for the wrong meter and in the wrong name.
In the end I asked EON if they wanted to take the person on the incorrect bill to court as I'm sure he wouldn't turn up.
When they eventually sent me the right bill after 6 months, I suggested a discount and they knocked 30% off.0
