  • @woolly_wombat no evidence but this is what i do for a living. If the bank can prove you knew 3 years ago and were sold the product 6 years ago, they can legitimately "time bar" you. As another user said, banks have been writing to people for years. If they sent you a letter 8 years ago about it and you don't complain until today, you're not getting any money back unless you've got a bloody good reason for the delay.

A few posts on this thread make it feel like a therapy session for some seasoned PPI complaint handlers.

I’d like to add my own ‘mistakes’ / errors of judgement/ blind greed I’ve seen:

    Falling for CMC marketing.

Threatening the use of a CMC when your complaint isn’t going the way you thought (I.e. you’ve not been sent a cheque for £50,000 like you were promised by the adverts). (Not a mistake as such, just one of my favourite calls (‘I’ve got forms here for Gladstone Brooks - you won’t be so smug when I get them involved’))

Using template letters and not taking out any of the complaint points so now you were both completely oblivious to the existence of PPI AND you were pressurised into taking it by a pushy salesman who convinced you it’s value for money.

Signing up for every CMC under the sun and then complaining to your lender when they send out duplicate complaint letters to each of them from 2 weeks ago which are subsequently followed up by invoices from said CMCs for wasting their time.

    That's hilarious! :D

(The naivety of the person who "threatened" that is breathtaking, though. The poor sap.)

I had a good chuckle with that one and told them to come on here and find out exactly what CMCs don’t do before they sign the paperwork.
