Online return policy

Hi
I wonder if anyone can advise me on online return policies. I understood that you had the right to return most items bought online, but a company where I want to buy a dress from say they will only give you store credit. They only have an online store!
It's quite an expensive dress for a wedding and there's a chance it won't look good.
I've looked on Which but it's a bit ambiguous:
'You have the right to cancel at any time from the moment you place your online order, and up to 14 days from the day you receive your goods. This is sometimes referred to as a ‘cooling-off period’.
You need to notify the retailer of your wish to cancel your order within this time period – by email, for example.
You then have a further 14 days from the date you notify the retailer of your cancellation to return the goods.'
Does that mean if I cancel my order they can give me a credit note?
Thank you for any help.

Better place to post this is in the Consumer Rights forum:-

Regardless of that save yourself any grief and buy from somewhere that will give you a refund and not credit.0
