Move in, butter the paws of the cat, put kettle on and enjoy!

I had to google that one! :rotfl: You learn something new every day! :D
  • Before you decide to 'junk' all the furniture check out E. bay vintage and see what things are going for, Parker Knoll and G Plan are much in demand for re-upholstery and resale which you could have done for yourself if you liked the pieces of furniture if not let someone else have them but don't chuck anything until you've made sure it's not worth selling instead.

Huge congratulations on your forthcoming baby, my eldest DD is 34 weeks pregnant with her first child and is almost 41 and seems to be thriving on it and is looking forward to the arrival of our granddaughter as are we xxx.

Can you 'pack' the contents of the new house into one room, to be sorted when you are more up for it, ie post baby? Maybe you could use professional packers for that.

It is a wonderful house - such lovely proportions and lots of light. I wish you all great happiness.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
  • There are a number of vintage groups on fb that would dream of your house! Its beautiful and I'm sure will be happy home. Anything you don't want I'd pop on ebay and join some of the vintage fb groups to share the links

Those dressing tables would be very popular!

I'm surprised that house wasn't snapped up by a film or TV production company. I can see a nice little income there if left almost as is. Can't really see much 1950's style though, mostly early 1960s through to the mid 70s with a few heirlooms sprinkled in. The cooker is a close to top of the range early 70s model, much better to use than modern ones but not as stylish. I know of many older people who still hanker after an efficient high level grill such as that Canon has. continental type cookers with fairly useless grills came in cheaply after we joined the common market and people abandoned functional cookers for limited efficiency continental style ones
Beautiful House, I hope your family is very happy living there.
  • good luck with it all. I dont know how far you are in the pregnancy but any stage will leave you tired, please let anyone who is willing to help in your move do so even if you have to spend a bitx
we completed on our house whilst i was in labour with my eldest. the solicitor rang to say something needed discussing, still no idea what but we just said we are busy do your thing... :)
my kitchen stuff is where it kept where it is because my friend did it but do you know what it works !!
the good news is the house is functional and clear of clutter and is very lovely by the way. Take your time to settle but as a prority get a gas/electric safety test. Also oil radiators not plug in heaters/fan heaters or the ones that may topple. You will be tired as you know with a new born so keep it safe and foolproof.
Stickers on boxes to say which room and how necessary will also help :)
    congratulations xx

Soundgirlrocks that's a good idea I'll join some groups. In the kitchen is an original programme of the 1946 victory parades, just lying on the side. And in the garage I spotted a 1960s Hoover in it's box. There is a freestanding garage FULL of stuff - ancient lawnmower, chairs all stacked onto one another. I'm sure it'll be fun to look through when I'm feeling better!

For whoever asked I'm 13 weeks today and finally starting to feel OK. I was bedbound with extreme nausea for a few weeks and it just feels good to be able to eat!

Sounds like an absolute treasure trove; definitely research the resale value of everything before chucking.

Prioritise getting the roof/gutters checked, wiring and plumbing. Everything else is just trimmings and you can sort to your taste in time.

I thought of this thread last night when I was watching George Clarke on 'Old House, New Home'. There were some great ideas for period style with a modern twist but I don't expect that you have £350 000 to spend on the makeover! Property !!!!!! at its best.:D:rotfl:

Your house looks lovely! Rewiring and new heating will involve pulling up floorboards in every room and making holes in walls, so you have the perfect excuse to leave the decorating for later. My top tip would be to (a) make sure you take kettle and mugs in the car with you (ie not at the bottom of box 27), so at least you can have a cup of tea, and also to work out what you need to wake up to first thing, eg alarm clock, hair dryer, clean towels, so that when you wake up on the first morning in your new house, it feels at least a little bit like home.

The prepping for winter thread will give you tons of good advice on how to keep the house warm, eg heavy curtains when you don't have double glazing. Wishing you many happy years in your new home.
