No advanced booking train deals available

I live in London and have to travel regularly to visit and tend to my mother.in Glasgow. I have always managed to get cheaper travel by booking in advance. There are many deals from London to Glasgow but none for return journey. I have tried from now up to Janauary 2020 and the standard fare of £146 is quoted for every time and date. Can anyone advise what has happened and why no train deals are now offered for advanced booking from Glasgow Central to London Euston.

If you were to post in the forum for UK public transport you might get more helpful responses than this. All I can say is that many of the trains between Glasgow and London pass through Lancaster, and there are always plenty of cheap advance tickets available for Glasgow to Lancaster and Lancaster to London. Probably there would be more options if you were to split at Preston, and perhaps more again if you chose Crewe or Birmingham.

You might be looking too far ahead,

Here's an example for a Sunday in September - from £47

And midweek in October - £30

  • Hi,

I think advance tickets are only available 3 months before travel.

Cheap advance tickets will only be available to early November at the moment.

Sign up to Virgin and LNER so you are notified when the batches of advanced tickets are released.

Thanks for going to all this effort. I can only travel on Friday after work and need to return on Sunday. I will try your link.
