She had lots of foreign holidays with her family and had been all over the world so I dont think visiting Peru particularly added anything to her life but her family could comfortably afford it.

That's why I question expensive school trips. The students who would most benefit are the ones who can't afford it. My daughter went on a walking trip to the Lake District, staying in a Youth hostel, a lovely time was had by all for a very reasonable cost.

Yes that is how I feel. My kids went to a school right on the coast, you could see the beach from their very nice playing field, they had a great sports hall and a swimming pool. I've often thought that in the school holidays alot of kids from the inner cities could have a lovely holiday camping there for very little cost.

Well, that got the thread off to a good start:(. Just think how all the teachers who teach in Primary schools might feel reading that uninformed opinion. They don't spend years at university to become childminders. If a parent isn't concerned about the education of his own child what hope is there.:(

Well said maman. The children in my school do not just play games at the end of term they are still learning. Perhaps more parents should come into school to see just what we do all year round. Children who go on holiday during term time miss out on so much and often there isn't time to go back and re-teach the topic for those that missed out.

I wonder what parents would think if we went on holiday during term time?

I doubt teachers want to work two extra weeks a year or that schools have the funds to stay open two extra weeks.

I agree who is going to do this and when does the necessary repairs get done if the school needs to open for these children? With 7 different year groups in Primary School this would be a nightmare because their teacher would have to work out who missed what and teach different subjects/ topics at the same time.
