British Gas Switch

I am on a fixed term tariff with British Gas/Electricity until end of August but cannot switch until it ends without having to pay £80 for leaving early. I want to switch to EDF on 1st September and they have advised to contact them on that day to switch. What happens to my gas/electricity supply between 1st September and the time that EDF actually make the switch? Does it automatically stay with British Gas on the same tariff? Many thanks.

Rules say you have 40 days before the end of current tariff to switch penalty free .Your current supplier should have informed you of this .

You can start the switch now .

As long as BG are advised by the new supplier of their intention to take over the supply before the expiry of the current tariff, then you should remain on the existing tariff until the switch occurs (assuming it actually happens in a reasonable time thereafter)

So I am coming to the end of my fixed term deal with OVO and looking at the offers running by British Gas and EDF. The British Gas Energy Protection Green Aug2020v2 deal is not available on the British Gas website. 'Don't ask, don't tell??' You get 'insurance' with it. Is that insurance 'British Gas Homecare 400' including annual boiler service etc? If you already have Homecare 400 do you still get it for free under this deal?

Please read the terms and conditions of the offer
