It is worth taking it to the FOS as single premium ppi front loaded on a Loan is still a valid complaint and much better than the one you used.

In the early days of PPI complaining it was a good reason. Nowadays, it is only with consolidated loans or where there was no rebate on early redemption where that works.

You might want to write Nationwide to advise them that you intend to take it to the FOS with the new complaint
It's not a "new" complaint though.

The OP can realistically only refer the original complaint to FOS, stating that he feels not all aspects of the sale have been considered in the Bank's rejection of his complaint and citing the single monthly premium.

It's also not generally possible to get the Bank to reverse a rejection simply by threatening to go to the Ombudsman.

Certainly, the original complaint reason seems to have been fairly and accurately dismissed by the Bank...

Apologies Sun but you are wrong there, it’s only considered potentially detrimental if there have been consolidation loans... even then only if the firm didn’t offer a pro-rats rebate, which Nationwide did

So if this was not a consolidation loan (I don't think it was, but it was a long time ago...) then it is not worth taking it to the FOS, right?

    Do as you see fit.

We are only pointing out your options and the likelihood of their success.

If you don't refer your complaint to the Ombudsman, you have no possibility of a refund.

If you do refer , there is a (slim) chance you will succeed.

Even if it were a consolidation loan the single premium would NOT be suffice grounds for a refund as Nationwide provided a pro-rata rebate... if you have any other compelling grounds for a refund the use those but given the low cost and limited exclusions found on Nationwide policies don’t expect anything out of this and you won’t be disappointed.
